Getting Started
- What you need: An iPhone with NFC support (iPhone 7 or later) and iOS 17 or later, plus an NFC tag (most common tags work, including NTAG213, NTAG215, NTAG216, and blank tags).
- First-time setup: Open Rot Stop, tap +, scan your NFC tag, then select the apps you want to block and name your tag.
- How it works: Rot Stop uses Apple's Screen Time framework to shield selected apps. Your NFC tag acts as the physical key to lock and unlock them.
Troubleshooting
- NFC scanning not working? Make sure NFC is enabled on your iPhone. Go to Settings → General → NFC and ensure it's turned on. Hold your tag near the top edge of your iPhone.
- Apps not locking? Make sure you approved the Screen Time permission when first opening the app. If you declined it, you can re-grant it by reinstalling the app.
- Tag not recognized? Most NFC tags work, including NTAG213, NTAG215, NTAG216, and blank tags. Hold the tag near the top edge of your iPhone and try again.
- Can I use multiple tags? Yes! You can register multiple tags, each with its own set of blocked apps. Tags lock and unlock independently—apps are blocked if they appear in any locked tag.
- Emergency unlock questions? Emergency unlock requires a multi-step confirmation, then unlocks all apps for 3 minutes. Tags automatically re-lock when the timer expires.
Privacy & Data
Rot Stop stores all data locally on your iPhone. There are no servers, no tracking, and no personal data ever leaves your device. Anonymous feature analytics are sent via TelemetryDeck. Your focus sessions and app selections are completely private.
Common Questions
- Will this drain my battery? No. NFC scanning only activates when you bring your tag near your phone. The app uses minimal background resources.
- What happens if I lose my tag? You can reset your tag pairing in the app settings and pair a new NFC tag.
- Can I export my data? Since all data is stored locally and we don't collect any information, there's nothing to export from our servers. Your data stays on your device.
